I wasn't expecting much from elementary school students, but I was pleasantly surprised. This 45 minutes concert really helped bring in the Christmas season for me.
I understand Rachel was given permission to join the grade school program in 2nd grade, and the rest of the orchestra members are mostly in the older grades. THAT, perhaps, could explain why you were pleasantly surprised Mark. Often by 4th-and 5th grade the children are able to produce great results, IF THEY PRACTICE and are dedicated. I started playing the flute summer after 4th grade, I believe. And I remember my brothers Jeff (violin) and Brent (cello) were in the all city honor elementary school orchestra in 5th and 6th---and actually so was I on the flute (and there are not many flute players in an orchestra :) ). I'm GLAD you enjoyed the concert. It's neat that YOU went. I bet that meant a lot to Rachel.

I really want Liv to play the violin (when she gets older of course). Rachel is such a beautiful girl!
