Grandma Edith Erma Fischer Francom died this past weekend, March 19, 2010. She was 92 years old in one month on April 19th. She retained her mental capacity to the very end. She lived in Monticello Utah (a six hour drive from Logan). A day and a half before she died I asked my mom if she would put the phone up to Grandma's ear (even though she was asleep) so I could say I loved her. I said "Hi Grandma, this is Elizabeth." I was choked up and caught off guard when she spoke back in a struggling voice. She said "hello dear." I told her that I love her and so does Mark and the children. She said she loves me and them too. I told her that I would finish her history for her - as it should be in a book. I had been working on it for her. She was going to get me her recent history (she had not written yet). She said thank you dear. I was so touched that she was speaking to me that I could hardly speak. I know she was in a lot of pain. I love her and I will not forget that. I will miss hearing the stories of her childhood. Like her riding the ship from Germany to New York City with her family as a child of 5 years. I will miss hearing stories of her courtship to my Grandpa. Most of all I will miss her sweet smile and the sparkle in her beautiful blue eyes. She always took such great care to dress well and look her best. She was soft spoken, a little shy and very sweet. Her funeral was very nice and my mother gave a wonderful talk in her memory. Dad performed a beautiful organ solo for her. The viewing was very special. It was really touching to hug and greet all 7 of her children at the viewing. My Hannah, 2 years old, was touched by it as well. She kept saying "Grandma died" while pointing to her. She then pulled Isaac to her and rubbed the side of his head saying "Grandma died Isaac. It's ok, Grandma died, it's ok. You're a good boy Isaac. It's ok." It was a very sweet and tender occasion for all of us. We will miss you Grandma Francom. She leaves behind quite a numerous posterity: 7 children, 62 grandchildren, 180 great grandchildren and 29 great-great grandchildren.
